using techniques in childbirth…
This program combines Prenatal Yoga & Mind Training. It is designed to prepare YOU physically and psychologically. The emphasis is on the ability to relax deeply and at will, and create ease and comfort during labour. The emphasis of PowerBirth training is on developing a steady and peaceful mind that will not interfere with the natural physiological process of childbirth. Powerbirth will also develop self-reliance by increasing positive attitude, raising confidence and eliminating fears and anxiety.
The main objective is to minimise stress in labour and increase your chance of experiencing a positive childbirth no matter how you give birth, feeling strong and satisfied afterwards. Many mothers attending the PowerBirth® Program manage their labour naturally, many others will minimise pain relief using only gas towards the end of the 1st stage of their childbirth.
You will Learn
- Mind Centering Techniques, to strengthen your Mind and train it to remain focused, calm and supportive during childbirth. Mental and emotional steadiness will keep you calm and allow for more and deeper physical relaxation which will support your working uterus by minimising tension and reducing pain production. As a result of your regular practice you will develop mental stamina, increase your pain threshold, reduce or eliminate pain and rediscover your inner strength
and learn how to use it.

PowerBirth® 7-week Training Course
PowerBirth® (PB) is the original training course, which has been offered since 1999. It is an extension to Simply Prenatal Yoga (SPN). For those who wish to attend PB course you can start around your 5th month (20 weeks) of pregnancy. Earlier than 5 months you may want to start with the Simply Prenatal Yoga (a good preparation for PowerBirth) and then move to the PowerBirth® course later. Please check the Starting Dates for PowerBirth® 7-week course.
In PowerBirth, mind training is incorporated into the yoga practice and the teachings are covered over 7 weeks. The 7 weeks are structured in a sequential manner, training the mind progressively from simple practices to the state of Focus & Relaxed Awareness. Classes consist of yogic movements, breathing, visual imagery, mind power & cognitive control, mind centering techniques, mind strengthening, relaxation training & led relaxation, birth stories in focus, motivational talks & knowledge sharing and many pregnancy & childbirth issues are addressed weekly.
A missed class can only be made up by attending a corresponding session that is presented in another class within the same week so that sequence is not lost.
PB Training is a prerequisite if you want to attend PB Practice or Couple
Mothers may take 2 classes per week: 1 Simply Prenatal Yoga (SPN) & 1 PB course. Once PB course is completed; 1 PB practice & 1 SPN.
There are no starting dates for Simply Prenatal or PowerBirth practice classes. Classes are ongoing throughout the year, except during public/school and summer holidays. Bookings are made to availability.
PowerBirth® Practice Classes
Once you have completed the PowerBirth 7-week Training course you can attend the practice classes. It is a continuation of PowerBirth Training. Here you have the opportunity to practice what you have learnt, to deepen and cultivate the mind state that you will take into your childbirth. These classes are a great support to the training course and helps you to stay on track with your practice as well as to keep you calm and fit through the remainder of your pregnancy. It is recommended, if time allows, to attend at least 5 practice classes after you have completed your PB Training. Mothers usually take classes all the way to their due date. You can also attend SPN if you wanted to take 2 classes per week.

PowerBirth® Couple Workshop
This workshop is available to PowerBirth students and their partners only. It is better to attend this workshop with your partner once you have completed the PB Training Course. Please book early, workshops are limited to 9 couples.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
You do not need to have done Yoga before BUT you need to come with an open mind to allow yourself to explore new ideas and possibilities, and the willingness to re-evaluate your image of birth and your beliefs if necessary. We have found that learning 2 different systems can be confusing as well as conflicting. For these reasons if you have already completed a childbirth preparation program (other than antenatal classes from your hospital) we advise that you do not book into PowerBirth® training course but attend Simply Prenatal Yoga instead. Unless you are dissatisfied with a previous method it is best that you stay with your previous teachings.
Who come to the PowerBirth® Program?
Women who have been recommended by a friend or a professional, women who are expecting their 1st or 2nd baby and want to optimise their childbirth and/or are aiming for a natural childbirth, women who are coming back with their 2nd or 3rd pregnancy, women who are disappointed with their 1st, 2nd childbirth and want to increase their chance of a normal/natural labour.
