WORKSHOP  SERIES

​12 places available per workshop

​

Each workshop will have 2 sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. 

Tight muscles pull on the structure causing misalignment in joint and asymmetrical strain.  Tightness can lead to various problems such as misalignment of the hip, tension in the lower back and knee pain. 

 

Proper alignment supports function and in our yoga practice it promotes effortlessness, stability and balance as well as efficient use of our body minimising stress on ligaments and joints. Any postural deviation from correct alignment and loading the joint unevenly create strain and stress. 

 

Sometimes due to restriction or pain we may begin to distort our body in order to reach into the pose, losing correct alignment. Over time we create unhealthy movement patterns, muscle imbalances and poor joint alignment that will wear faster! 

 

These experiential and interactive workshops will aim to address alignment and tight muscles, to look at practical adaptations and to gain more understanding of how to manage imbalances or restrictions in order to optimise our practice.

Students will have plenty of time to practice and explore.​

BACK CARE
Lower Back


Date: Saturday 12 October
Suitable for students with a regular practice

I.  Asana: 9.30- 11.30am

​

A dynamic practice to awaken the legs, create space and lengthen the spine.

​​​

II. Therapeutics​: 1.30-3.30pm

​​

We will explore simple and useful adjustments and modifications for a series of poses aiming at creating space and length in the spine and to release sore backs.

 

Cost: $75

LOWER BACK
Stretch & Strengthen
 
Date: Saturday 2 November
Suitable for all levels of practice

I.  Stretch: 1.00-2.45pm

​

We will focus on stretching and releasing tight muscles responsible for back pain. 

​​​

II. Strengthen​: 3.15-5.00pm

​​

We will focus on strengthening core muscles.

HIP CARE

Date: Saturday 23 November
Suitable for students with a regular practice

I.  Asana: 11-00-12.30pm

​

A focus on making hip poses more accessible and improving our overall practice.

 

We will explore simple and useful adjustments and modifications for a series of hip poses that can help with increasing/maintaining range of movement without pain while keeping optimal alignment and creating space in the joint.

​

II. Therapeutics​; 2.00-4.00pm

​

A focus on supporting optimal functioning, healthy range of movement and improve circulation by creating space and ease in the hip and groin area as well as releasing tension in the muscles surrounding the hip joint.

UPPER SPINE NECK & SHOULDERS

Date: Saturday 7 December
Suitable for students with a regular practice

I.  Asana: 10.30-12.30pm​

 

A dynamic practice with simple modifications for the neck and shoulders. 

​

II. Therapeutics​; 2.00-4.00pm

​

We will look at the therapeutic applications of asana for the upper back, neck and shoulders,​​

INVERSIONS
2 hour workshops

Inversions build core strength, strength & flexibility of the hips, shoulders/arms, wrists/hands, legs and trunk. They are challenging, exhilarating and fun. Headstand & shoulderstand also have mental, emotional and physiological positive effects. They are challenging, exhilarating and fun.

​

We will focus on alignment and principles for practising these postures in a safe and effective way. An opportunity to explore, experience and understand various ways to get into these postures using props as well as lifting unaided.

  

Suitable for students who have a regular practice and would like to increase their understanding, gain practical knowledge and improve their practice of inversions.

 

Students need to be familiar and understand the prep work.

SHOULDERSTAND
