Why Yoga?

The Multi Dimensional Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is beneficial on all levels; physical, physiological, mental, emotional and spiritual. It’s remedial and restorative, it is health giving and it's fitness  - all in one practice!

From my perspective and 35 years of practice, yoga has sustained my overall health (mental & physiological), my fitness and wellbeing in a most natural way, as well, it has supported my healthy lifestyle, keeping me on track!

Our School

Founded by Corinne Doret, since 1999 Hills Yoga has been a cornerstone of the Hills community, offering a sanctuary for self-discovery and wellness. As one of the area's longest-running yoga studios, we have cultivated a legacy of excellence in teaching and practice. Our studio offers a diverse range of classes, including Iyengar and Hatha, catering to all ages and abilities. From foundational practices for beginners to advanced sessions, we provide a supportive environment for personal growth.

Through precise alignment, mindful movement, and the intelligent use of props, our approach supports safe practice, sustainable progress, and long-term health. We recognise that we are all different hence we do not follow a one-size-fits-all teaching/practice approach.  Alignment taught in class respects the individual unique needs - what works for one body may not work for another so students are encouraged to work at their own level and adjust their practice to their needs. Modifications for poses, individual focus and personal instruction is provided. Savasan (deep relaxation) is practised at end of class.

Our specious studio is conveniently located in the heart of Castle Hill and is fully equipped. We are close to Castle Hill train station and buses, with ample free parking at the rear of the studio.

Our teachers are highly skilled with years of teaching & personal practice.

I  founded Hills Yoga in 1999, where I've been teaching full time since.  I have a background in Clinical Hypnosis & Counselling, Hypno-Cognitive & Behaviour Therapy and Childbirth Management. I retired from my private practice in 2001 to focus exclusively on teaching yoga and program development for childbirth, children, meditation, and for people with disabilities.

A yoga practitioner since 1992,  I've studied with Iyengar teachers Geeta and Abhijata Iyengar, Pixie Lillas, Lois Steinberg, Stephanie Quirk, Mira Mehta and Gulnaaz Dashti.  I have also practised and learned the Ashtanga method from Eileen Hall and Mark Robberds, Viniyoga through Leslie Kaminoff, yin yoga and functional anatomy with Paul Grilley.  My interest in meditation and personal development has included practice and retreats in Vipassana meditation, the Zen teachings of Ama Samy, Kriya Yoga (KYI), chakra and third-eye meditation (Dr Samuel Sagan), and broader studies in spirituality and contemplative practice. I have also studied Traditional Thai Massage at Wat Pho School in Bangkok and Stretch Therapy with Kit Laughlin. In addition, I have undertaken studies in aromatherapy and practised macrobiotics for many years.

In 1999 I developed PowerBirth®, an integrated mind-body program supporting pregnancy and childbirth, and presented it to midwives & childbirth educators in the private and public sector. The program was delivered successfully for nineteen years.  In 2000 I developed a yoga program for people with disabilities and taught weekly classes to Warrah Post School Option and Hadpac's clients for 4 years at my Studio.

More than thirty years of personal practice and over twenty five years of full-time teaching have shaped my approach to yoga. My teaching is grounded in practical experience, continual study and self-exploration. It is hands-on, adaptive, alignment focused and interactive, with a strong emphasis on observation, individual needs, appropriate use of props, and the integration of body, breath and mind.

Fiona joined Hills Yoga in 2016. Fiona is currently undertaking the Teacher Mentoring Program with Corinne. She began her yoga journey 15 years ago and has been a committed and devoted student of the studio for the past nine years. Initially drawn to yoga to relax and improve strength and flexibility, she’s found its benefits gradually extend to all areas of her life. Fiona is eager to share her passion for yoga and to inspire others to discover the many ways it can enrich their own lives.

I have found this studio incredibly welcoming and supportive. The atmosphere is wonderful and the teachers are highly skilled. Starting as an older beginner I have found it challenging but have gained confidence and ability and enjoy every single class, always leaving feeling better than I arrived!!

I highly recommend Hills Yoga.
